Selenite/Satin Spar

One of the easiest ways to clear your crystals is with Selenite, also known as Satin Spar. Selenite is one of the two stones that never needs cleansing – the other is Kyanite. (see Melody, Love is in the Earth.) Simply set your other stones on or around Selenite to clear out residual energy and reactivate it for its intended purpose.

Water

Some crystals may be cleansed with water. These would include harder stones like Quartz, Apatite, Tigers Eye, and Moonstone, for example. Simply run them under some tap water from your faucet, or dip them in a creek or stream. They do not need to soak, as the action of the water carries the residual energy away almost immediately.

There is a lot of misleading information on the internet about crystals, minerals, and water. For example, it is widely believed that Selenite will disintegrate if it gets wet. This is not entirely true – you can read more about that HERE.

Moonlight

Clearing and charging crystals under the moonlight is wonderfully effective. Full moons, new moons, eclipses, equinoxes, and solstices all have special energies you may use to your advantage, however the moon clears and charges on any given night. Think of the rise and fall of the tide — the moon is responsible for that every day of the week. If the moon is strong enough to guide the ocean, it’s certainly strong enough to clear and charge our crystals!

About those eclipses… so many people on the internet say not to charge under an eclipse. I completely disagree with this idea for several reasons. First of all, the path I follow says that crystals are only used for the highest good. They do not capture and harbor “negative” energy. We clear away residual energy, left over from previous healing activities. Secondly, if we are accurately informed on the qualities of an eclipse, we should learn to embrace and work with those energies, not fear them.

Sunlight

Sunlight can be an effective method for clearing crystals, however some stones like amethyst and fluorite will fade in sunlight if left for an extended period of time. I recommend this as only an occasional method, and be sure to check if the stones you are clearing are likely to fade. Smoke

Smoke is an excellent way to clear the energy of your crystals. Use an herb bundle such as sage, or some incense and move the stone through the smoke so that all sides come in contact with it.

Sound

Tuning forks and singing bowls are extremely effective at clearing and charging crystals. Hold the fork or bowl in close proximity to the stones as you play them. Crystals may also be put directly inside a singing bowl as it is played.

Breath

You can clear stones with nothing more than your breath. Hold the stone in your hand and close your eyes as you breathe over it. Visualize the residual energy as dust as you blow it away.
