The creation story of our

Premium Quality Crystal Skulls

The carving process

A crystal skull begins with a single piece of raw Quartz.

The Quartz could be clear or smoky, rose or rutilated. Sometimes the stone contains phantoms, chlorite, or lodolite. They may have wisps or dendrites, or be water clear. They may be a gorgeous amethyst or a natural citrine.

Our skulls are made by a young Brazilian artist name Luis, who studied with the Master Carver, Pitico. Luis has an amazing eye – he sees the stones’ individual qualities and creates a beautiful work of art that incorporates these natural features.

As you can see in the video, Luis carves freehand. There is no drawing or pattern to follow. Each of these pieces is a unique creation, individually produced. We know exactly where our products come from and who is making them. There is no mass production, no child labor, and best of all, the artist makes a fair wage.

Many people will see the stone cutting process and immediately think, “He’s going to cut his fingers!” But don’t worry – these diamond lapidary blades are grinding, not cutting.

The stone must be constantly wet in order to keep it cool so that it doesn’t crack. The water also serves to keep any dust and silica particles out of the air, and prevent them from being inhaled. The process is loud, so ear protection is important.

The final step is polishing the stone. A polishing compound is applied and the surface is made smooth, shiny, and highly reflective.

We feel so fortunate to have such a wonderful partnership with our friends in Brazil. We want each of these pieces, regardless of price or size, to be loved and appreciated for the outstanding works that they are. Please feel free to request a video conference to find exactly the right piece to suit your needs.
